The Covid Passport is a document that will enable EU citizens to move about the 27 EU countries without undergoing COVID controls. The certificate will state that the individual holding the passport has been vaccinated with any of the serums authorized by the EMA or that they do not transmit the virus due to personal circumstances.
The Covid Passport will be issued for free either in paper or in IT format, by means of a QR code that will be associated to every European citizen. The information contained will be the name of the individual, date and place of birth, plus an identification code unique for each certificate.
So far we know three different types of Covid Passport Documents:
Vaccination Certificate, a document that states the holder has been vaccinated, date of vaccination, plus the pattern followed (Pfizer-BioNTech; Moderna, Astra Zeneca or Janssen).
Recovery Certificate, this document will be issued to individuals that have received part of the treatment of any of the vaccines authorized, on the IT format it might also appear information stating that the holder has undergone the illness within 6 months previous to the document expedition.
Test Certificate, this last certificate will prove that either the holder has undergone a PCR test with negative results within 72 previous to the issue, or that the holder has undergone an antigen test with negative results with the 48 previous hours.
The document will be issued depending on the different scenarios of each patient, and it will be the applicant the one to show proof of whatever the certificate will prove once issued. With the document, one could travel freely around the EU countries disregarding whether the country has opened the borders to tourist or not. Besides, the document entitles the holder to avoid having to undergo quarantine periods entering or leaving the countries.
The certificate will be valid from July the 1st and will allow to travel within any of the 27 countries, since from that date the passport will be valid and working in the whole of the EU, notwithstanding there are a few countries that have already started issuing the different certificates.
In Spain one can already ask for the Digital Covid Certificate, hence one could be ready to use it on the coming July.
There are two different ways to apply for the certificate: Ministerio de Sanidad or Local Administration (in Marbella, Junta de Andalucía)
